Engine Rebuild BMW N13B16A 1 Series, 3 Series Replacement Engine — Better Than Factory

The BMW N13B16A is a 1.6-liter turbo inline-four with 136–170 hp, used in the BMW 1 Series and 3 Series. The well-known timing chain problem in this engine leads to total failure if left untreated — MIK Motoren fully rebuilds the N13B16A and eliminates all factory weaknesses.

MIK upgrades — why this engine lasts longer

The work carried out includes not only replacing all wear parts, bolts and gaskets, as well as machining the mating and running surfaces, but also replacing components that are factory-fitted with weak points and the Limit the engine lifetime.

Timing chain upgrade with spring-loaded chain tensioner — The timing chain in the N13B16A is the main problem with this engine. From the factory, the hydraulic chain tensioner tends to fail at higher mileage — the chain slips, valve damage occurs and, in most cases, the engine is a total loss. MIK Motoren installs a spring-loaded replacement chain tensioner that tensions reliably regardless of oil pressure and permanently prevents timing chain noise and chain slip.
Upgraded oil pump — Tested and measured oil pump for permanently sufficient oil pressure across all rpm and temperature ranges. Insufficient oil pressure is the second most common cause of premature wear in the N13 after the timing chain.
High-quality bearing shells — All bearings are precisely measured and adjusted to the optimal bearing clearance for lifetime and performance. High-quality bearing shells in OEM quality ensure especially smooth engine operation — even under sporty use.
Intermediate shaft bearing — The N13 intermediate shaft bearing is subject to increased wear. As part of the rebuild, it is completely replaced to permanently eliminate noise and rough running.
