Engine Rebuild 1.8T 20V AQX — Better Than Factory

The 1.8T 20V with engine code AQX is the VAG Group's cult engine — turbocharged 150 to 225 hp in millions of vehicles. Its weak point: the oil pump and pistons fail under high load or increasing age. MIK Motoren completely rebuilds this engine from the ground up and installs components that outperform the factory version.

MIK Upgrades — Why This Engine Lasts Longer

With the AQX, we know every weak point. The rebuild includes not only wear parts — it eliminates the design flaws that cause premature damage in the original.

Upgraded oil pump The biggest weakness of this engine is its oil pump, which from the factory does not deliver enough oil pressure and repeatedly leads to failures. Without sufficient oil pressure, error messages, rattling noises, and loss of power quickly become noticeable and almost always lead to engine damage. For this reason, we use a specially developed oil pump that increases oil pressure across the entire RPM range and protects the engine from wear.
Reinforced pistons When performance-tuned or driven hard, this engine tends to suffer piston damage in the ring area more often. It is not uncommon for oil consumption to rise to 0.5L/1000km or more, while compression and performance drop noticeably. The increased temperature in the combustion chamber then puts particular strain on the pistons and valves. Modified pistons, improved piston rings, and a specially honed cylinder surface provide the remedy.
High-quality bearing shellsAs part of the overhaul, all components are precisely measured and machined. The bearing clearance between the individual components is set for lifetime and performance, ensuring especially smooth engine operation. Combined with high-quality bearing shells, this engine is also ideally suited for the sporty driver.

How much does the AQX engine overhaul cost?

The AQX engine overhaul starts at 4051 € for the partial overhaul without installation. With removal and installation service, it is approx. 8051 €. The full service including vehicle pickup is approx. 9375 €. Prices excl. VAT.

What are the MIK upgrades for the AQX?

With the AQX, in addition to all wear parts, we also replace the known weak points of the production engine. This means reinforced components, optimized sealing surfaces, and parts that significantly increase the lifetime beyond new car standards.

How long does the engine overhaul take?

The overhaul usually takes 5–10 working days from the time the engine arrives with us. For engines with severe damage (e.g. engine damage due to lack of oil), it may take a little longer. We will keep you informed throughout the entire processing time.

What warranty do I get on the overhauled engine?

We provide a 24-month warranty on all MIK replacement engines. The warranty covers material and workmanship defects. A professional installation and the use of the specified engine oils in accordance with our installation instructions are required.
