Engine Rebuild / Replacement Engine Mercedes Benz 300, 320, 350 CDI OM642.822 Replacement Engine — better than factory-new

The Mercedes-Benz OM642.822 is a 3.0 liter V6 common-rail diesel with 224–265 hp, used in C-, E-, M- and GL-Class models as well as the Sprinter. MIK Motoren fully reworks this engine and eliminates typical weak points such as oil pump failure and main bearing bore issues for a significantly extended service life.

MIK upgrades — why this engine lasts longer

The work carried out includes not only the replacement of all wear parts, screws and seals, as well as machining of the flat and running surfaces, but also the replacement of components that are factory-fitted with weak points and the Limit the engine's lifetime.

  • upgrade oil pump — The biggest weak point of this engine is its oil pump, which does not produce enough oil pressure from the factory and repeatedly leads to failures. Without sufficient oil pressure, error messages, rattling noises, and loss of performance quickly become noticeable and almost always lead to engine damage. For this reason, we use a specially developed oil pump that increases oil pressure across the entire RPM range and protects the engine from wear.
  • Alignment of the bearing bore — As mileage increases, the crankshaft bearing seats in the aluminum engine block shift, so proper alignment of the bearings can no longer be guaranteed and engine damage occurs. The main bearing bore must always be honed and fixed with the help of hardened shims. Otherwise, another engine failure is inevitable.
  • High-quality bearing shells — During the overhaul, all components are precisely measured and machined. The bearing clearance between the individual components is set for lifetime and performance, ensuring especially smooth engine operation. Combined with high-quality bearing shells, this engine is also ideally suited for the performance-oriented driver.
  • The correct cylinder bore — Over time, different cylinder liners were used. On the one hand, durable grey cast iron sleeves, and on the other hand more vulnerable plasma or AluSil coatings, which tend to develop scoring after relatively low mileage and affect the engines' compression. We use exclusively grey cast iron cylinder liners to extend the engine's lifetime.

What is the difference between a partial and a full overhaul for the OM642.822?

The partial overhaul includes the repair of the main wear components: pistons, bearings, seals, and valves. The full overhaul also includes engine block machining, crankshaft inspection, and all MIK upgrades to address known factory weak points. For maximum long-term durability, we recommend the full overhaul.

What are the typical weak points of the OM642.822?

The OM642.822 (Mercedes OM642 V6 CDI) has weak points in the swirl flaps, injectors, and boost pressure control. MIK permanently removes the swirl flaps and uses tested injectors.

Can I bring my vehicle with the OM642.822 directly to MIK, and will the engine be reinstalled afterward?

Yes. You can bring your vehicle to our workshop in the Osnabrück/Bielefeld area. Vehicle collection and return are also available on request. We remove the engine, overhaul it, and reinstall it. Alternatively: engine replacement with a reconditioned exchange engine for shorter downtime.
