2.0 TSI / TFSI CULC (EA888 Gen3) — better than factory standard

The 2.0 TSI / TFSI CULC (EA888 Gen3) is a four-cylinder turbo engine with 162 kW (220 hp), installed in: Volkswagen Golf VII GTI (5G), Volkswagen Golf VII GTI Performance, Seat Leon Cupra (5F) — model years 2014–2019. The engine is considered robust, but it has design-related weak points in the oil pump and timing chain that can become a cost trap over time. MIK does not simply rebuild this engine — we replace the known weak points with revised components.

MIK Upgrades — why this engine lasts longer

The work carried out includes not only the renewal of all wear parts, bolts, and seals as well as machining of the mating and running surfaces, but also the replacement of components that are marked at the factory with weak points and the Limit the motor lifetime.

• Upgraded oil pump
  The biggest weak point of this engine is its oil pump, which from the factory does not build sufficient oil pressure and repeatedly leads to failures. Without enough oil pressure, error messages, rattling noises, and loss of power quickly become noticeable and almost always result in engine damage. For this reason, we use a specially developed oil pump that increases oil pressure in every RPM range and protects the engine from wear.
• Reinforced pistons
  When tuned for more power or driven hard, this engine is increasingly prone to piston damage in the ring area. It is not uncommon for oil consumption to reach 0.5 l/1000 km or more, while compression and power drop noticeably. The higher temperature in the combustion chamber puts particular stress on the pistons and valves. The remedy is modified pistons, improved piston rings, and a specially honed cylinder surface.
• High-quality bearing shells
  During the overhaul, all components are measured and machined with precision. The bearing clearance between the individual components is set to lifetime and performance and thus ensures especially smooth engine running. Combined with high-quality bearing shells, this engine is also ideally suited for sporty drivers.
• Reinforced timing chain kit
  The increased wear of the timing chain is largely due to the chain design and the freedom of movement of the chain links on the guide rails. A revised chain design and a special guide rail geometry ensure maximum lifetime of the timing chains in this engine.
