Delivery times

Engine Rebuild 1.8T 20V AJQ — better than factory

The 1.8T 20V with engine code AJQ is the VAG Group’s cult engine — turbocharged 150 to 225 hp in millions of vehicles. Its weak point: the oil pump and pistons fail under heavy load or as the engine ages. MIK Engines rebuilds this engine from the ground up and installs components that surpass the factory specification.

MIK upgrades — why this engine lasts longer

With the AJQ, we know every weak point. The rebuild is not limited to wear parts — it eliminates the design flaws that cause premature damage in the original.

Upgraded oil pump The biggest weak point of this engine is its oil pump, which does not deliver enough oil pressure from the factory and repeatedly causes failures. Without sufficient oil pressure, warning messages, rattling noises, and loss of power appear quickly and almost always lead to engine damage. For this reason, we use a specially developed oil pump that increases oil pressure across every RPM range and protects the engine from wear.
Reinforced pistons When performance-tuned or driven sportily, this engine is more prone to piston damage in the ring land area. It is not uncommon to see oil consumption of 0.5L/1000km or more, and compression as well as performance decrease significantly. The increased temperature in the combustion chamber then places particular stress on the pistons and valves. Modified pistons, improved piston rings, and a specially honed cylinder surface provide a remedy.
High-quality bearing shellsDuring the overhaul, all components are precisely measured and machined. The bearing clearance between the individual components is set for lifetime and performance, ensuring particularly smooth engine running. Combined with high-quality bearing shells, this engine is then also ideally suited for the sporty driver.

What are the MIK upgrades for the AJQ?

How long does the engine rebuild take?

The rebuild usually takes 5–10 working days from the time we receive the engine. For engines with severe damage (e.g. engine damage due to lack of oil), it may take a little longer. We will keep you informed throughout the entire processing time.

What warranty do I get on the rebuilt engine?

We provide a 24-month warranty on all MIK replacement engines. The warranty covers material and workmanship defects. Proper installation and the use of the specified engine oils in accordance with our installation instructions are required.
