MIK Upgrades — why this engine lasts longer

The 1.8 TSI/TFSI (EA888 Gen3) has engine-specific weak points that we know from years of hands-on experience. Our upgrades are not a marketing gimmick — they are the direct answer to the most common failure patterns.

• Upgraded oil pump — The biggest weakness of this engine is its oil pump, which does not deliver enough oil pressure from the factory and repeatedly causes failures. Without sufficient oil pressure, warning messages, rattling noises, and loss of power quickly become noticeable and almost always lead to engine damage. For this reason, we rely on a specially developed oil pump that increases oil pressure across the entire rev range and protects the engine from wear.
• Reinforced pistons — When tuned for more power or driven hard, this engine is increasingly prone to piston damage in the ring area. It is not uncommon for oil consumption of 0.5L/1000km or more to develop, and compression as well as power drop noticeably. The increased temperature in the combustion chamber puts particular strain on the pistons and valves. Modified pistons, improved piston rings, and a specially honed cylinder surface provide the remedy.
• High-quality bearing shells — During the overhaul, all components are precisely measured and machined. The bearing clearance between the individual components is set for lifetime and performance, ensuring particularly smooth engine operation. Combined with high-quality bearing shells, this engine is also ideally suited for the performance-oriented driver.
• Reinforced timing chain kit — The increased wear of the timing chain is largely related to the chain's design and the freedom of movement of the chain links on the guide rails. A modified chain design, along with a special guide rail geometry, ensures maximum lifetime of the timing chains in this engine.
