The N12B14A is a 1.4 liter naturally aspirated engine (up to 95 hp), installed in numerous MINI models. Although the engines in this series are sporty and compact, they struggle with well-known weak points: oil pump wear, piston damage, and timing chain problems often lead to premature engine failure. MIK Motoren doesn't just rebuild this engine — we specifically address every weak point and rebuild it better than when it left the factory. The result: greater reliability, longer lifetime, peace of mind.

MIK upgrades — why this engine lasts longer

Our overhaul goes far beyond replacing wear parts. Every known weak point of the N12B14A is addressed specifically:

• Upgraded oil pump — The factory oil pump in the N12B14A delivers too little oil pressure at higher engine speeds and under sporty driving. The result: rattling noises, error messages, engine damage. MIK installs a specially developed high-performance oil pump that builds reliable oil pressure across the entire rev range and protects all moving parts.
• Reinforced pistons — Sporty driving or performance upgrades put disproportionate stress on the pistons in the N12B14A. Higher combustion chamber temperatures lead to cracking in the ring zone, increased oil consumption (0.5 L/1,000 km and more), and loss of compression. MIK uses modified pistons with improved piston rings and a specially honed cylinder surface for permanently sealed combustion chambers.
• High-quality bearing shells — All bearing components are measured precisely and set to the optimal bearing clearance. High-quality bearing shells made from proven material ensure especially smooth engine operation — even with sporty driving and higher mileage.
• Reinforced timing chain set — The increased wear of the timing chain is caused by the chain design and the geometry of the guide rails. MIK installs a modified timing chain kit with optimized chain design and adapted guide rails for maximum lifetime.
• LIVE documentation — Transparency as standard: With our project management app, you can track the overhaul progress in real time. Live images and detailed reports directly on your smartphone — no black box, just full control.
