1.8 TSI / TFSI CYGA (EA888 Gen3) — better than stock

The 1.8 TSI / TFSI CYGA (EA888 Gen3) is a four-cylinder turbo engine with 132 kW (180 PS), installed in: Audi A3 (8V), Audi TT (8S), Volkswagen Golf VII (5G), Volkswagen Passat B8, Seat Leon (5F), Škoda Octavia III — model years 2014–2020. The engine is considered robust, but it has design-related weak points in the oil pump and timing chain that can become a costly trap over time. MIK does not simply rebuild this engine — we replace the known weak points with revised components.

MIK Upgrades — why this engine lasts longer

The work carried out includes not only the replacement of all wear parts, bolts and seals, as well as machining the mating and running surfaces, but also the replacement of components that are factory-marked with weak points and the Limit the motor lifetime.

• Upgraded oil pump
  The biggest weak point of this engine is its oil pump, which from the factory does not generate enough oil pressure and repeatedly leads to failures. Without sufficient oil pressure, error messages, rattling noises and loss of power quickly become noticeable and almost always result in engine damage. For this reason, we use a specially developed oil pump that increases the oil pressure in every rpm range and protects the engine from wear.
• Reinforced pistons
  When performance is increased or driven in a sporty way, this engine is more prone to piston damage in the ring area. It is not uncommon for oil consumption to rise to 0.5 l/1000 km or more, while compression and power drop noticeably. The increased temperature in the combustion chamber puts particular strain on the pistons and valves. The remedy is modified pistons, improved piston rings and a specially honed cylinder surface.
• High-quality bearing shells
  During the overhaul, all components are precisely measured and machined. The bearing clearance between the individual components is set to lifetime and performance and thus ensures especially smooth engine running. Combined with high-quality bearing shells, this engine is also perfectly suited to sporty drivers.
• Reinforced timing chain set
  The increased wear of the timing chain is largely due to the design of the chain and the freedom of movement of the chain links on the guide rails. A revised chain design and a special guide rail geometry ensure maximum lifetime of the timing chains in this engine.
